Born and brought up in India, the land of curious delights, creative expression has been a part of me from a very young age. I started working as a freelance designer at 14, which helped me gain almost a decade of experience as a designer. A year later, two of my short stories were published in Chicken Soup for the IITian’s Soul. My journey had merely begun and I had already ticked off my aspiration of being a published writer. At 18, my first poetry collection – Beautiful Carcass – was published by Partridge India.
I attended Nottingham Trent University, UK for my undergraduate studies from where I graduated BA (Hons.) Fashion Communication and Promotion with First Class Honours and an academic award. During my time in the program, I had the incredible opportunity to work on projects for brands like Paul Smith, Levi’s, Free People, and many more. Since graduation I have added on to my work experience, one of them being under Grazia, India where I was a Digital Writer.
The years I spent at Nottingham Trent were extremely formative and it brought forth an evolution in my dreams. I fervently fell in love with research, filled with unquenchable curiosity, and began exploring fashion’s cultural appropriation problem. It was here that I decided to pursue academic research.
Throughout my journey, I have worn many hats. Self-taught artist, art & fashion history enthusiast, pop culture fanatic, visual communicator, person of colour, woman. I plan on continuing to wear them with pride as I prepare for my graduate studies, waiting for the next chapter of this remarkably insightful journey.
